King Tut: Ancient Egypt's Most Talked About Pharaoh

With so much mystery and intrigue surrounding his life and death it is no surprise King Tut is making headlines once again. King Tut is proving that you don’t have to be alive to be talked about – in fact you don’t have to have been living for the past couple millenniums! Over the past forty years King Tut has been the topic of much historic gossip, and earlier this month was no exception.

After many years of speculation and scientific findings, scientists have revealed they think they finally know the cause of King Tut's death. It is not an exciting, scandalous or heroic death as originally hypothesised... it appears that the king died of complications from a broken leg aggravated by malaria. Although not very exciting, the news has come as a brilliant time as the latest exhibition of King Tut's belonging tours North America.

The King Tut Exhibition of the 1970s set astonishing records - but the latest exhibition, 'King Tut and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs', hopes to give it a run for its money. The exhibition will be showing in four major North American cities - San Francisco, Denver, Toronto and New York. Included in the exhibit is an impressive collection of objects from Tutankhamen's tomb. In addition to 50 objects straight from Tut’s tomb, there is an array of other Egyptian artefacts from the 18^thDynasty. This 'Golden Age' of Egypt only covers about one hundred years, but it produced some of history's most impressive and memorable antiquities. The exhibit also includes a new forensic study of King Tut's mummy. In addition to a forensic specialist created life-sized bust, there is also a attraction which allows visitors to explore the causes of his death with videos of recent CT scans.

‘Tut Mania’ first began in 1972, where the exhibition was first held at the British Museum, and it was a huge success, with people queuing for over eight hours just to see King Tut and his treasures. Visitors to the latest exhibit have already reached around 4 million, so it wouldn't be surprising if the latest exhibit where to break new records. There are iconic pieces from King Tut's tomb that have never been outside of Egypt before, as well as some iconic objects. Even if you aren't in one of the cities the exhibit is visiting, you should try and see it.

It's not surprising that this Egyptian pharaoh holds a well-affirmed place in history. With all the grandeur and mystery surrounding his life and death, it’s hard not to be intrigued by the life and times of King Tut.
