Jesse Jackson Jr. Called IPad A Mechanism For Unemployment
Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) was for the iPad before he was against it. In March, Jackson trumpeted the tablet's power to revolutionize the U.S. education system. Yet just Friday, Jackson said the iPad can be "responsible for eliminating thousands of American jobs." The iPad will kill writing, states Jackson
The Illinois junior congressman seems really annoyed about the iPad considering there are so many textbookless campuses now while Borders Books went bankrupt.
"What becomes of publishing companies and publishing company jobs?" Jackson asked the House. "What becomes of bookstores and librarians and all of the jobs associated with paper? Well, in the not-too-distant future, such jobs simply won't exist."
China's role in the iPad also made Jackson upset.
"There is no protection for jobs here in America to ensure that the American people are being put to work."
Americans are the ones that want it
The wealth the iPad has had for many businesses in the United States, not even Apple, has not been considered by Jackson, claims Business Insider. MarketCues suggests the iPad will prove to be the nexus from which numerous billion-dollar industries could conceivably spring. E-readers and the iPad provide publishers with myriad opportunities to create interactive textbooks while greatly reducing the costs of producing frequent new editions, a boon for students. It was anticipated that traditional writing was to change. According to @Craigmod, the evolution was needed. Books get to a person quickly with electronic books so they don't have to wait. Also, there are no trees killed to create the books. More than 65 percent of iPad owners use the device to read e-books, and the iPad generates more than $2 billion in total revenue per quarter, according to Morgan Stanley.
How the publishers will adapt
Publishers must adapt to the revolution and not flip-flop like Jesse Jackson Jr. More e-books than print books are sold on Amazon currently, according 2010 figures. iPad users are in support of it. According to YUDU Media, iPad users spend as much as 30 times more time on sites like GQ.com, VanityFair.com and Wired.com via iPad app compared to a desktop computer browser. In fact, sales of the Wired.com iPad app surpassed the Wired print edition in late 2010. It is just like the commercial for the iPad. It says, "It's already a revolution, and it's only just begun." Jesse Jackson Jr. missed out. He may not be invited anymore.
