Most Popular Kids TV program - Ben 10
The children’s TV program Ben 10 has been voted the most popular in a toys & programs survey completed by Sky.The Cartoon Network has hit gold with this latest super hero which they can add to their long list of hits.
4-10 year was the age group that the survey targeted and there where around 6,000 kids asked.On top of heading the list of most popular kids TV show currently the survey also found that it take its place in the hall of fame also, having ones of the highest ratings ever. It received 40% of votes from children and a 75% viewing figure. Previous winners include Pokémon, Power Ranges, Baby Walker, Rug Rats, and Telly Tubbies. However the voting percentages for these were no match for Ben 10.
With superpowers that far exceed any other, Ben 10 can, in an instant, morph into whatever he desires using his special watch. The fact that Ben finds himself in battle with a new foe every episode has caused some criticism from critics who are anti-violence. However, producers pointed out that the program was not gratuitously violent and has always been light-hearted.
Ben 10 may not be at the top spot for long if the BBC have their way as they are soon to release Hector The Dragon. This new cartoon which is due to released soon, tells the story of 8 year old boy who, during ever full moon morphs into a dragon. However, rather than being evil, Hector aims to protect those around him from all the other evils that come out of the woodwork on the same night. Hector, as you would imagine, struggles to keep his secret from those close to him and it really effects every part of his life.
The popularity of a show also influences off-screen markets as well. A programs popularity will directly effect the amount of merchandise sales that are made off the back of it. As merchandised childrens toys is a multi-million dollar industry, the competition will always be strong.
