Will Joss Whedon Be The Avengers Director?

The Joss Whedon / Avengers Movie rumors are not yet confirmed, just so everyone's on track. However, what has been confirmed is that Joss Whedon is in "final negotiations" to direct the upcoming Avengers movie with Marvel Studios. It is scheduled to be released the first weekend of May 2012, and the Joss Whedon Avengers movie may certainly be worth every pay day loan fanboys and fangirls will get to see it 30 times.

Will the Avengers director be Joss Whedon?

To make it clear once more, the rumors of Joss Whedon directing The Avengers have not been confirmed. Joss Whedon, in fact, has been announced as a good candidate for director of The Avengers since April 1. "Conversations are taking place," according to Marvel Studious, and Joss Whedon is on "the short list" of directors to be considered for The Avengers. In an interview back in 2005, Joss Whedon has stated that he "wouldn't approach The Avengers." Nevertheless, things can certainly change over time, and now it looks like Joss Whedon is seriously considering the director's chair.

The Avengers - the basics

For those that are not sure what The Avengers, directed by Joss Whedon or not, would be, here's the basic primer. A supergroup, made up of Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk Thor, and Captain America are all called together when there is a huge global fight that no single superhero can take on. Nick Fury calls the group together, though it is supposedly a "last resort" for any or all of the superheros.

It will be the second big-screen file for director and series creator Joss Whedon if he chooses to direct The Avengers. Joss Whedon is known for his television series. Buffy the Vampire Slayer lasted for several years, and was the biggest hit. Spin-off series Angel was also a relative success. Firefly, which was a one-season cult hit, was spun into the movie Serenity, a movie that was also directed by Joss Whedon, thanks to the a short term loan offer from the studios. Joss Whedon has been working on the two-season series Dollhouse, which is his latest project. Joss Whedon's biggest strength has proven itself to be directing ensembles, which is precisely what The Avengers will be.

Some really big names in The Avengers

The ensemble cast of The Avengers that Joss Whedon may well be directing is indeed huge. Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans have all been signed on to the movie. Zak Penn is the screenplay writer, and Marvel is planning on promoting this movie like none other before. With the commercial success of most Marvel movies, and the rabid fan base of Joss Whedon, it is no doubt that The Avengers will be a 2012 event that is not to be missed.
