Movie video games- A new age of quality adaptations
There's been licensed movie video games almost as long as there have been ways to play video games. While some of them may have been decent, a greater number have been sadly lacklustre in essentially every aspect that made the feature films they are based around great in the first place. This year, thankfully there is a bunch of superb examples of movie video games on release to get into- a couple of which might well be much better than the films themselves!
First on our list there is the new movie video game based on X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This exciting game is thankfully much better than the Wolverine movie itself! Created by Raven Software, the Wolverine game contains a rather different story-line to the blockbuster movie, but it does have Hugh Jackman's voice and likeness. The game features all of Wolverine's abilities, which are used in a nice way- in particular his healing factor.
As far as Marvel games go, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie video game is shockingly violent, as you'll notice from the battlefield decorated with bloody body parts and other delightful things. Well, the Wolverine character certainly has claws. Here you get to make him use them to their full horrific effect.
Next up there is the new multi-platform game based on Terminator Salvation, the fourth film in the time travelling cyborg sci-fi action film franchise. Where 3rd movie Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and its movie video game version were terrible, this looks to be going in tandem with the exciting new vision of the new movie and is great to look at and play. Here's a fine example of how movie video games are getting better a lot lately.
Now with two-player co-operative game-play, the Terminator series is catching up with other contemporary games such as the iconic Gears of War franchise, allowing for some great split-screen battles to be enjoyed. Couple this with the ingeniously rendered distopian future setting that the movie video game happens in, which you can use to your full advantage when playing the game, and you have one strong prospect for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
The new Ghostbusters movie video game is something that has been causing a big hubbub. With the revelation that a 3rd Ghostbusters film is finally heading into production, 20 years after Ghostbusters 2 was released, now is the superb time to remind yourself of the classic Ghostbusters characters and situations. Let's face it, that first film is a real classic in every sense of the concept, and finally there is a movie video game that does it the justice it deserves.
The plot behind the new Ghostbusters game was devised by Harold Ramis and Dan Ackroyd, the writers (and stars) of the first two Ghostbusters movies, so the game may even be canon to a certain level. The classic original four Ghostbusters movie characters are back as fantastic digital versions of the actors, and the whole game looks superb. All of your character's vital readings are shown on your Proton pack, giving this movie video game a similar feel to Dead Space. With all of the iconic monsters showing up in the game, fans will be thrilled when they grab it for their DS, PS3, PC, Xbox 360 or Wii.
After such a rash of lacking movie video game tie-ins, it seems that the new games that are coming onto the market are being developed with much more of an eye on for the source material and also what audiences want out of a movie video game based on their favourite titles. These are some of the best movie video games available right now, and hopefully they can help you discover a great new level of fun of your favourite films.
