Just how is the world of fashion is coping against the recession?

With businesses going under everywhere in the recession, how has the fashion world held up? Where some have been using the best materials known to man at a huge cost, now have to use a cheaper material and try to achieve the same stunning effect as the costly material. Some designers have thrived under the pressure, using it as a inspriation to create unique and unusual designer clothes. Before where the money was there to spend to solve a problem, they now needs an amount of creativity to solve the problem, and are creating some inspired and interesting works. The designers that tapped into the spirit of the times and choose alternative means to the catwalk to demonstrate their lines. Many designers are having one to one meetings with fashion editiors and buyers or throwing smaller functions to display their collections to demonstrate them, getting rid of the unnecessary extravagance. Desginers are either targetting the general public with smaller price tags on their wares, or the rich, who can afford to continue their big spending.

Shops like Debenhams has reported that their designer ranges have actually seen a boost in sales with womens and mens fashion. Shoppers have begun to think about what they buy, and are purchasing high end clothing without the high end price tag. The retail chain reported a double digit sales growth in the run up to christmas while seeing sales and profit increase while reducing its debt.

Also while the demand in America and Europe may be lower, the demand in the middle east is still quite strong. So focus has began moving to the Middle East as designers focus more on that market and try to gain back some of the revenue thats disapeared from America and Europe.

So people arent spending as much, but the important thing is that they are still spending. Designers are welcoming the challenge of the recession and letting it inspire them, rather than letting it have a negative imapct.
