Eco Resorts In Tulum Are A Great Way To Go Green

Everywhere you turn lately, a celebrity or something is illuminating you to Go Green! A long time ago, going green meant with envy, but these days people have gotten hip to the fact the environment is in turmoil but it’s on us to help make it a better place.

Now, I’m no Greenpeace Protester, but I do my share. I recycle. I turn off lights. I even got those dreadful spiral light bulbs for our lamps in my house. With many people, these little life modifications are a sufficient amount. For some who wish to achieve more, one can find surprisingly many things they can do to reduce their carbon trace in the world.

Ever consider going green on your vacation? Recently, I visited Tulum, a tiny seaside town about ninety minutes south of Cancun. While the jungle makes up greater than 90 % of the ecosystem, it’s not exactly the green I’m talking about. For years, Tulum has been the host to a growing variety of eco-friendly resorts. These tulum hotels operate virtually solely on wind and solar energy though numerous do possess gas or diesel powered back-up generators just in case. Many of the eco resorts do use wind and solar to make the best part of their power needs.

In Tulum, these eco-cabana resorts line the perfect beaches leading into Sian Ka’an Biosphere, a 1.3-million-acre nature reserve stretching the length of the Caribbean coast. These resorts offer a variety from rustic cabanas situated by the beach to luxurious adobe-style quarters. Smaller compared to the major resorts in Cancun however, the majority don't lack in facilities. Numerous resorts like Playa Azul and Los Lirios Cabana Resort as well as super luxurious Blue Tulum Hotel offer full health spa services from beach-side massages to face treatments with natural Mayan skincare products. Virtually all of them have bistros that dish up scrumptious, epicurean cuisine well into the evening. The range of selections was a nice surprise!

My earliest vacation to an eco-friendly resort was a couple of years ago in Tulum. I’m no camper, by any means, hence when I read the short inventory of things to take, my stress level went up a rung upon seeing flashlight as among the list of must-haves.

A flashlight? I thought. What’s up with the electricity? There is none past 11pm, that’s what! However, I was desperate for a holiday. I figured I’d see what this whole eco-resort mania was all about.

It was 2006 and my first occasion in Tulum. I’ve been back three times since! My experience was spectacular. Being at the seaside takes care of the worry that it's going to be too hot in the room lacking A/C. The lights being turned off later than 11pm wasn’t a problem at all. I had my flashlight, nevertheless there were also Tiki torches lighting up the whole property, so yeah, electrical energy wasn’t greatly missed at all. On the whole, my first endeavor into eco-tourism was no different than any other vacation I’d had in the past.

I must note that some of the Tulum eco resorts boast 24 hour electricity, except you should definitely make sure those particulars ahead of departure if that is a priority for you. There are also excellent tulum deals at these eco hotels for the summer low season so plan your Tulum excursion soon!

The need to be green has reached way ahead of the Greenpeace set. Mull it over and consider doing more than your part and remember to bring your green eco friendly bags with you for the trip.
