Ads Classification Old and vintage prints
I love the advertising period and antique prints of magazines that are 30 to 100 years or older. A print 10x13 matte and framed correctly can really liven up an office or room. Uses of these old ads can be found in another article I wrote for articlebase. Today I wanted to talk about how to define and quality of these pieces of history.
Now before you can level an old print must determine if they belong effectively from the original journal or if it is a reproduction. Some of these old ads can get a pretty penny so it would be a good punishment for the "player" to print a few copies and sell em for a hundred dollars a piece of ignorance. Fortunately, if you're buying online or from Ebay, the seller usually Advance this, plus they are usually protected by their policies or your account PayPal Buyer Protection. Say you go to a flea market and although we found a large announcement you would like in your home. Is it real? Unfortunately there is no definitive answer, but here are a few things to look for. The vintage ad must, ie have water stains or slight darkening around the edges. Mint ads (as I will discuss) are extremely rare, so if it looks like very good to be true then it probably is. If the ad is framed and ask if they can perform, the quality of paper to tell you. Searching for a paper magazine light not half heavy printing paper. Some questions about where he / she has received or will ask that up if it is a reproduction. Most of the time You have to go with your gut, but these small things can help.
So your ad is real and it's time for some cards. Now remember, these print ads can be from 30 years. Magazine paper can survive very well over time, but the way it is stored, the acidity and quality of the paper may play an important role. That's how a typical vendor / supplier grade their vintage ads.
MINT - In my opinion there. In fact, in most opinions of the vendors there. Vendors often buy these magazines that have "stumbled" for their ads. For a mint magazine would be found to declare that they have literally had to leave the impression wrapped and sealed in a day that never opened. Magazines like this are very rare and hard to get. No declaration of a notice of mint should be questioned widely.
NEAR MINT - This is another very rare condition. The color and paper are still well preserved and very vibrant. At first glance there really is no sign of aging. What sets it apart from the mint is the exposure he has had with the air that will eventually lead to toning or rust-colored tone paper obtained from oxidation.
EXCELLENT - Excellent designation is a common condition. These impressions are beginning to have signs of aging such as toning (due to oxidation). There may be some slight wrinkles (dog ears). The margins are clean and even. There are no significant breaks. Any rips that are evident should be less than 1 / 4 inch. What sets an excellent addition to the following classification is usually the imperfections of this class can be hidden behind the frames or mats.
Very good / good - I put these two together, as indeed does the same thing, only to what degree. Denotes that there is an imperfection good obviously, but does not detract from the overall picture. This may be a small stain, a tear, the transfer of ink from one page to another. VERY GOOD would be a small imperfection, say a tear 1 / 2 inch on the side where as it would be a 1-inch tear.
Regular or bad - another qualifying group I'm putting together. This printer sports a major flaw. This could be water damage, a big scam, or severe foxing (the paper wrinkle effect when exposed to moisture). I would never list an ad in this category unless it is requested or rare.
I hope this helps novice collectors or fans. Visit my website if you get a chance and look around, have fun. Thanks for reading.
