An Online Bachelor Degree Is The Beginning Of Your New Career

Adults who have been a part of the working world for decades, as well as young people looking to establish themselves in a career for the first time, are discovering the importance of continuing their education. The need for obtaining a degree in your field of choice becomes more vital as the job market continues to decline.

Economic downturn has forced so many adults to be employed at more than one job to make ends meet, sometimes working as many as 50-75 hours a week for a minimum wage. Tasking such a heavy workload makes it increasingly difficult to pursue an education and obtain a degree. Often, when thinking of a traditional education, one thinks of visiting a college or university's campus and sitting in a physical classroom. This is often impossible to adjust to with a demanding daily schedule and where Online Bachelor programs are paving the way for an exciting future.

Additionally, many institutions and government officials are working to ensure the education sector is accessible to students of all ages, backgrounds and levels of experience. To address this issue, the TIAA-CREF Institute, an organization that supports developments in higher education and financial security, recently held its 2009 Higher Education Leadership Conference.

Professional educators from around the nation brainstormed ideas to aid individuals who wish to overcome the barriers facing them in terms of affordable post-secondary education. It was determined that colleges and universities will need to focus on affordability, as well as begin to raise funds to allow for more students to have the educational opportunities they desire.  Part of this is allowing students to maintain their jobs while they use College Degrees programs at home on their own timetables.

Charles Reed, the chancellor of the California State University system who spoke at the conference, suggested post-secondary education officials eliminate the 12th grade and introduce students to collegiate-level coursework after their junior year of high school.

Changes to the traditional pursuit of four-year degrees were also proposed to ensure college graduates have a better chance of completing their degree programs and obtaining employment. David Gergen, a professor at Harvard University's JFK School of Government who delivered the conference's keynote address, suggested universities place increased emphasis on summer programs to help students earn degrees in three years instead of the typical four or five.  This means obtaining your Accredited Degree even more quickly.

During the conference, many education experts agreed that online education programs will play a large role in allowing students to gain the experience needed to launch the career they desire. Schools online are becoming more popular than ever before, and the demand for a convenient education with flexible timing is extremely high.

As higher education providers work to achieve these goals, working adults who enroll in on-campus or online colleges to pursue associate, bachelor or master's degree programs will have several options through which they can obtain marketable skills.
