Sherlock Holmes vs. Mike Hammer
Last year, Robert Downey, Jr. starred in a new film version of Sherlock Holmes was a success great all around. With Jude Law playing Dr. Watson, Sherlock Holmes was a new adventure that would add to his legacy continues forever. They produce the world's greatest detective, this creation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has stood the test of time as an English classic superhero, who looks increasingly desperate circumstances Ween victory. Where there is no scratches no clue of nowhere and his genius to solve crimes is unsurpassed. Now, though clearly Sherlock Holmes is probably the most famous detective in literature past and present there was also another in their best, if not more popular as popular as Sherlock himself, and that was Mike Hammer Mickey Spillane.
Mickey Spillane, Mike Hammer created long ago when he wrote for a comic book company Marvel Comics that was aa. At first it was called Dick danger and tried to sell a comic action at that time were not like superhero comics as there are today. This project failed after some adjustments and a name change, Mike Hammer hit stores store and overnight became a sensation. The detective hard-boiled tradition of pasta galvanized every male in the United States. Tough, smart and always ready for action, Mike Hammer was the epitome of man, the man who did not take crap from anyone and always was willing to back it up with his fists or his gun. In its heyday of Mike Hammer was the most popular series of novels in the United States and resulted in several successful films, Mickey Spillane even starring the author himself. Inevitably, a TV series out of it also stars Gavin McDarren that lasted a couple of seasons in the late 50's, and another attempt came in the 80 with stage actor Stacy Keach in the title role. Then Mike Hammer just seemed to disappear from American conscience.
I do not know what it is we in America where it is so easy to make something old for something new, but it happens often. Sherlock Holmes has been re-done and re-done and redone many times in recent years. Basil Rathbone was the most famous to the interpretation of Jeremy Brett who inspired the character in the 80's and early 90's. Michael Caine has played Sherlock Holmes, along with along with David Suchet, who went on to play Hercules Poirot in the long running series Poirot Agatha Christie character inspired by the same name, and many other leading actors Robert Downey, Jr. earlier this year. So far, with the exception the television series with Stacy Keach have no inspiring performances of Mike Hammer and no effort to bring this classic American detective back on the people's psyche American.
Sitting down to think sometimes why the English and others tend to have a long-standing romance with classic heroes and we Americans seem to spit out as fast as you create them. For example, no more attempts to make movies of Tarzan, Tarzan was a large U.S. franchise running was a safe source of money. Charlie Chan has disappeared, and for years was one of the most popular American characters in literature and film. The Lone Ranger has been with the Green Hornet (there's a movie coming out next year on the basis of that character) and I know there has been no attempt to recreate the invention literary classic by none other than Edgar Allan Poe August C. Dupin (who says the inspiration for Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot in Agatha Christie) the classic story The Murders in the Rue Morgue, where the murderer is a monkey trained to kill. One wonders if that is the nature of our American literary and film scene or if the desire for new writers and new producers to push their own ideas leaves room for interpretation of classic American characters. Eitherway, is a shame indeed, to stop seeing these characters in the film and there really is no reason that just dropped out seemingly forever.
In conclusion, it is my hope that people will rediscover these classic stories and characters of America and began to print books and make films about them. We maintain a close proximity to some of the things from our past to help us chart a course for the future. We will all grow old by the grace of God and think of the message we are sending to the younger generations here in America that once you are old no longer relevant. The English do not agree with that, nor Japanese or Chinese, even the French. Appreciation for those who came before us only ensure that his legacy is maintaiin its importance and only grow in value in the coming years. Imagine the amount of original Sherlock Holmes manuscript is its value? How about the first draft of Mike Hammer? How much is it worth the worth it?
