Labor Department Says Career Opportunities Rising Steadily

Job openings within the United States of America rose to a two-year high in Oct, based on the Labor Department. After an earlier Labor Department report that showed the joblessness rate inching dangerously close to 10 percent, the job openings report was considered great news. The October job opportunities numbers, based on economists, might be an indication that hiring might gain some momentum early next year.

Viewing the job opportunities statement for Oct

Job opportunities in Oct rose to 3.4 million, an increase from 3 million reported in September. Declines within the previous 2 months were reversed with the 12 percent month-to-month increase as shown by the Labor Department Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey. October career openings reached the highest total since August 2008, when the financial markets were on the brink of collapse. In Oct, there was a rise of 369,000 private sector career opportunities. Since 2006, there hasn’t been anything that big. The JOLTS report showed that advertised career openings rose by about 1 million. That means that from the low point, there was a 44 percent increase. In July 2009, which was a month after the recession ended technically, the low point was reached.

Still obtaining more job applications for careers than required

From October 2009, there was a 32 percent increase in career openings. The 14.8 million still unemployed hurts that number though. It is really hard to get careers still. The statement by JOLTS showed lots of people trying to get October job opportunities. For each and every career, 4.4 individuals applied for it. The number is getting much better though since in September it was 4.9 people per career and since January 2009, it is the best number. Despite the gains, the hole blasted in employment by the recession is deep. On the Columbia Broadcasting System News program "60 Minutes" Sunday, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said it could take up to five years before the joblessness rate returns to a "normal" rate of between 5 and 6 percent.

Much less of a bad job market

Bernanke’s estimate may have changed if he realized that the job opportunities report would show a sign of accelerate hiring. Many economists estimate hiring off the JOLTS report. It's usually fairly accurate for about three months. Even though career creation in November fell short of the most conservative estimates, an economist at Credit Suisse in New York told reporters that last month's dismal careers statement looks like "a bump within the road.". It seems like the JOLTS careers report has shown a bright future ahead. The career sector might finally be emerging from this disaster.
