There Is Nothing Like The Simple Life
When John lost his high paying job, he thought his life was over. How was he ever going to be able to afford to maintain his expensive lifestyle? How would he attract women? John had dedicated his life to living in the fast lane. When he suddenly was forced to slow down, it felt like he had ground to a halt.
After the shock wore off, John picked himself up again and started pounding the pavement, looking for work. He hadn't lost his job because he wasn't good at it, so he was confident that if a job was available, he would have a good shot at getting it.
It took six months before John realized that he simply wasn't going to get as good a job as the one he'd had before. Selling real estate was his game, but real estate wasn't selling. The big guns in real estate had all slashed their staff numbers and wouldn't even let him work on commission.
Finally, John ended up being their customer when he was forced to sell his penthouse condominium. Fortunately, he had gotten a deal on a foreclosure back when foreclosures were rare. Unfortunately, he had to sell it at a near foreclosure price. When he finished paying off all his debts, he didn't have enough money to invest in even a ground floor studio in his old location. It was time to move on.
Finally, John settled for a job in a small real estate office in a little town a few hours north of the city. Although he had enough money to make a down payment, he wasn't ready to commit himself to the area, so he just rented a little house and invested his money instead.
The house was unfurnished, but a lot of the stuff from his old condo just wouldn't fit into the much smaller space he now had. He went out and bought a loft bed first, since there was no way his king bed was going to fit. After he got used to it, John started to like the loft. It made him feel like the little kid who got the top bunk.
He had some expensive modern bar stools, but they just didn't look right in his new home. Except for his favorite leather lounge, he sold everything else.
He bought some wood bar stools from an old man in his new town who turned them out on a lathe and sold them out of his garage. John loved those stools and got to know the old man well.
As time went on, John slowed down to the pace of his new neighborhood. After awhile, he looked back on his old life and realized that he had only thought he'd had it made there. Here, where life gave you time to relax and enjoy yourself, he was happy. As for attracting women, he also found the girl who became his wife.
