Sharing Special Moments With Your Family.

Quite early in life, one discovers that the more time you spend with someone you start having feelings of attachment and security. When you share your life with family, the bond strengthens to the point where you become inseparable. My family is very close because we created many wonderful memories together and shared them with each other as often as we could.

There were times when my mother would be in the kitchen making something for supper, and she would want us to come in and help. You could never be sure if we were actually helping or not. There were times when her new anodized cookware set would be dropped on the floor adding another dent or scratch to mar its luster. She handled this all with the patience of a saint and helped us clean up whatever mess we had made. As a result, we all seemed to develop a love for cooking and baking.

As much as we loved helping our mom in the kitchen, there were other things that we enjoyed just as much. Family game nights were another way that we all connected. When a board game got set on the table, we all raced downstairs to ensure we got our favorite colored game pieces. At that point, we thought you had to have the right piece to have fun. It was quite a few years before we all discovered that irregardless what piece you are using, the fun comes from the people that you are playing the game with.

Perhaps the best of my favorite moments was when we all gathered around the family scrapbook album. You could see the love that my mother put into each page as it was turned. With each page centered around one of us kids or our father or her, it was easy her pride and joy in her family. The brightly colored pages each carried witty sayings or memorable moments captured in film.

There were many times when our laughter filled the air, and surely it gave our parents quite a bit of enjoyment as we pointed out humor in those photographs. Although perhaps one of my favorite pictures in that scrapbook was the time we attended a ball game. Peanuts and soda in each of our hands as we found our seats and sat down.

The cheering from the fans as the game began, and the loud speaker announcing the teams as the players came onto the field and took their places. The batter stepped up to the plate, and a hush seemed to draw over the crowd. His black helmet glinted as he swung, the foul ball headed for the stands where we were seated. We stood to catch it and as my hands swung out my mom snapped the picture with the ball in my hand.

There are numerous family moments with mine, and you can make your own family moments, whether at home or outside somewhere. My children will one day get to make some with me.
