Funny Groom Speech – Letting The Audience Have It
The tone of a funny groom speech is anywhere between the speech of the best man and the speech of the father of the bride. The speech of the father most of the time is solemn while the speech of the best man is outright hilarious. The speech of the groom on the other hand is sincere and formal but would be a lot more interesting when it is entertaining with the right amount of humor.
A speech that is funny and entertaining is always welcome anywhere. What makes a funny groom speech a little tricky is the expectation for formality, sincerity, and functionality, but there are no hard rules, if the groom chooses a funny speech, the following could be pitfalls to avoid.
At any wedding, the guests come from various groups of different ages, religion, and persuasion. The families of the groom and the bride, acquaintances, friends and colleagues are from different backgrounds. The wedding may also be the first occasion where the some of the guests will meet the bride. Among the guests, the degree of familiarity may also vary. All these will make other guests less receptive to humor. If a funny speech is to be delivered then, the best route is to tell of anecdotes that are more universal in experience so that everybody could relate.
Before the speeches, it is very advisable to make all the guests feel welcome and proper introductions made. Thanking the guests for coming remains to be the best icebreaker during the reception.
Avoid clichés as well as popular jokes. During the opening sentences, the one liners, jokes and anecdotes must be really funny. A good way at doing this is trying it out with a friend or two first. You would not want a joke that is met with stillness so practice the delivery beforehand until you could do it to perfection. You will need more than several jokes and one liners during the speech but when you could get your audience to laugh at your first attempt, you could easily get them laughing again.
You are the main man so you will have to assure your in-laws that their daughter is in very safe hands. Complementing your bride about the attributes that attracted you to her will assure her parent but stay off complimenting her breasts and buns. And no matter what you do, do not put your punch line at the start of the sentence. No matter how tipsy you feel you already are, avoid the story of the Beauty and the Beast. Sure your wife is a beauty but she may not look very much like her mother and someone in the guests may just glance at her mother, you know?
At this point your best man must have said his speech and must have gotten away with a few good laughs. Rip him down to shreds while being friendly about it. The audience that is primed to laugh will regard character assassinating the best man as fair game.
In any event the word is respectable humor. A funny groom speech is not meant to outdo the amusement that the best man got away with.
