Amongst the number of systems that have been promoted is the Martingale strategy. It has been used by many people, and has helped some win. Having said this, no one has ever become wealthy using this system alone. But knowing about roulette systems allows you to adapt your play, and try different methods out to maximise the chance of you taking home some winnings.

To begin Martingale's strategy, you could place a single wager on red. If you're successful then you will have gained a dollar. Not a bad start if you do win on the first round! How do you progress if you weren't so lucky? In that case, make another effort by doubling your bet. If you win this time, you'll still be a dollar up. Otherwise, you keep on doubling. The probability of losing 7 times continuously is very less, around 2% only and this is the basis on which Martingale system works.

This technique recommends doubling your bet whenever you lose. Eventually you are likely to win, at which point you return to your initial, low wager. Using this method it is possible to make about a dollar every minute. Of course, if you have a large bankroll, this could be increased to ten dollar bets, with larger returns.

The trouble with the Martingale method, as with so many, is that although statistically it would seem you could only very rarely exceed seven losses in a sequence - this will almost certainly occur eventually. Statistics don't hold back on the truth in the end! When it does, you could find yourself with not enough left to make the bet. Even though you have enough funds, you might not be permitted to increase your bet once you reach the table limit.

The Martingale system can be useful for the short term. The flaws appear when the system is used for a longer duration. Winning in the beginning gives the payers a heady feeling of success which makes them continue playing. It lulls them into a false feeling of confidence but it does not work out in the long run. Being dissatisfied with modest wins can result in big losses later on. The secret to knowing how to win at roulette is to use a system like this for a short period, and be satisfied with small winnings.
